The extremely remote & harsh environment of Mt. Everest created some very challenging obstacles for the S2 BioPhotonic Scanner. There were no electrical outlets for startes to power the scanner. Hum, this was a major challenge, so what did they do? The Pharmanex Scientist and Engineers developed a solar array to charge the batteries and provide power for the scanner to operate.

The next major challenge even more complex was the extreme altitudes and the internal electronic circuitry. At those altitude the electricity would literally jump from trace to trace, or in effect wire to wire. So they had to totally redesign the electronic guts of the BioPhotonic S2 Scanner.

And then there was the pCal. This is the calibration  material used to calibrate the S2 Scanner. It's a silly putty like substance and it would freeze and develop air bubbles in the freezing temperatures and high altitudes. To over come this the Scientist and Engineers at Pharmanex added another led to act as a calibration reference therefore making the new Everest Edition Scanner completely internal and self calibrating. The thing can literally be scanning people in 5 minutes.

And if they had hot had enough challenges they had to ruggedize the scanner to. The fragile optics of the scanner would not take the ride to the top of Mt Everest on the back of a Bison. There were no Escaldes or Hummers to take it to the top so the optics had to be reworked and ruggedized as well.
